Benefits of ACE

All City Elementary (K-5) can provide an enriching learning experience for your child - both inside and outside the classroom. ACE maximizes the potential for learning through a combination of academic strategies and involvement. We work hard to achieve the ACE mission, which is to work together - to maximize individual potential - to make the world a better place. If you choose ACE, not only will your child or children benefit, you will too! By choosing ACE, you are joining a community of parents who actually see how the investment of time in education can impact their children's future. Here is a list of ACE benefits:

  • Parental Involvement

    • "I love being in the classroom with my children! I am able to get to know the students and parents my child is spending time with. If they ask for a play date I know which children and families are the most compatible with my child." - Tanya - parent

    • "I like that we have parents to lead our reading groups. I think we learn more." - Zaker, age 8

  • High Standards of Academic Achievement

    • All City provides a unique learning environment where children can excel in all aspects of their education. The commitment time served by parents is a true investment in their child’s education.

    • All City received an excellent score on the 2013 South Dakota State Report Card. All City was one of two schools in Sioux Falls receiving an ‘Exemplary High Performance’ rating, coming in second by only one point. We were the only school to have 100% of our students proficient or advanced in the area of Reading.

    • Dow Rummel -

      • "Dow Rummel Retirement Village is a wonderful opportunity for students to see the impact of community service. Third grade students go to Dow Rummel once a month to decorate 50 residents' doors with seasonal decorations. In addition, the students spend time visiting with the residents; and occasionally play Bing, or participate in some other activity."
        - Renee Grogan, former Third Grade teacher

      • "When we are in Third Grade at All City we get to go to Dow Rummel. We make crafts that tie into the season. We put those crafts on the elderly peoples door. At the end we have juice and cookies, sometimes we get ice-cream. When we are having our snack we talk to the elderly people. I like seeing the elderly people become happy when we are there."
        - Catherine, age 9

  • Technology Integration In Every Classroom

    • "We live in a technology and media-driven environment, marked by access to an abundance of information, rapid changes in technology tools and the ability to collaborate and make individual contributions on an unprecedented scale. Effective citizens and workers must learn to fluently navigate the overwhelming data available. In addition to the required content, students must learn life and career skills, such as flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, social and cross-cultural skills, productivity and accountability, leadership and responsibility." - Dr. Pam Homan, Superintendent

    • At All City technology is used in all areas of learning. Every class is equipped with Smart Boards, iPads, and more. This fall Phase I of 1:1 Technology Initiative begins with putting a Chromebook in the hands of every student in Third through Fifth Grade. Phase II will give every student in Kindergarten through Second Grade an iPad. In addition Third Graders learn keyboarding skills on NEO keyboards.

  • Unique Sioux Falls School Enviroment

    • "All City seeks to create meaningful participation, not just in the classroom, but around our Sioux Falls community. A couple examples include monthly Choice Day and YMCA swimming. Service learning at local nursing homes and various health and human service organizations. There are many ways to measure the quality of a learning enviorment. At All City our students consistantly test above average across the district." - Nan, parent

  • Classroom "Family" Activities

    • K-5 students spend time together weekly in various activities. Some activities tie into a year long theme for the school. Past themes have been: Live Strong, Bucket Fillers, and Pyramid of Success.

  • Monthly Choice Activity

    • Choice Days are special learning experiences provided by All City parents for all students each month. Choice Days may be field trips, craft projects, guest speakers, sports or many other activities chosen with learning as a guiding force. Students are allowed to request Choice Day activities. Each activity allows for space for at least two children from each grade. Staff members are assigned to accompany out of school activities.

    • "It is a fun way for kids to learn and do different activities." - Chloe, age 10

  • Monthly Swimming

    • ACE students visit the YMCA to swim the first Friday afternoon a month. Swimming is another activity which ACE includes for the development of the whole student by encouraging physical activity.

    • "Going swimming the first Friday every month is fun because I get to hang out with my friends." - Nathan, age 10

  • Artist in Residence

    • The Artist in Residence is a program that brings an artist in a different genre each year to the school for week long workshops with all grades. Past genres have included: dance, song composition, poetry, watercolor painting, sculpting, and abstract painting. The wonderful mural in the hallway of ACE was a collaboration between the students and Eyob Mergia for an Artist in Residence project.

  • Fall Festival Carnival

    • The Fall Festival is an evening of games, crafts, and food for all families. Taking place on the last Friday of October, it is a great time for students and parents to dress in their Halloween costumes and have a fun, safe evening. Booths are led by parents as part of their commitment time.

  • Snowflake Craft Shuffle

    • The Snowflake Shuffle is a Saturday afternoon in December where families can come to ACE and participate in various crafts, music, and games. Booths are led by parents as part of their commitment time.

  • Yearly Musical Production

    • "One of the great learning opportunities that ACE has for its students is the annual All School Musical. We produce a kids version of a popular musical using every student in the whole school, and many, many parent volunteers each year in March. Every student in the 4th and 5th grade gets a speaking part or a stage managing role, and kids in grades K-3 function as a very large chorus. The 4th and 5th grade kids audition before Christmas, and have rehearsals once a week from January to March, and the whole school learns the music during music class, so very little outside of school time is required from the kids. It is truly a highlight of our year at ACE!" - Amy Morrison, Musical Director, parent

    • "The All City Musicals was my favorite activity! You get to sing, dance, act, and the performance is sometimes on TV!" - Grace, age 12

  • Science Fair

    • The annual Science Fair is open to all grades, however Fifth Grade students are required to participate.

    • "I like that All City lets kids participate in a Science Fair and win ribbons." - Oscar, age 9

  • Talent Show

    • The Talent Show is an annual spring event which is open to all students to showcase their talents.

    • "I like showing kids and parents what I can do." - Jacob, age 10

  • Fourth/Fifth Grade Class Trip

    • The Fourth and Fifth Grade classes at ACE have a great time on the annual outing. It's the last big group activity for the classes, which have worked together in group activities for the entire year. Previous trips have included: Pierre to see the Capitol, Omaha Zoo, and an overnight at the Washington Pavilion.

  • After School Care On-Site

    • Kids Inc., a division of the Curriculum Services department of the Sioux Falls School District, provides after school enrichment at all Sioux Falls School District Elementary Schools, with the exception of Renberg Elementary.

    • Kids Inc. provides a safe setting with embedded learning for children kindergarten through fifth grade during after school hours until 6:00 pm. This program is designed for children who will benefit from enrichment activities in groups with a 15 to 1 ratio. We are happy to make reasonable accommodations for children as long as we are able to maintain our 15 to 1 staffing ratio.

    • Our enrichment program strives to be fun, challenging, and inviting and to use innovative ideas and activities to promote children’s learning. The program is conducted and planned by a staff trained to meet the needs of children and to provide positive adult role models.

    • **Please feel free to visit our Kids Inc. website for more information at http://kidsinc.sf.k12.sd.us

  • Lifelong Friendships

    • "My oldest son, now in high school, has remained friends with those he went to school with at ACE. I too, have made friends with other parents at school. It's nice to have that network that forms between the parents at All City. We truly become a community often forming carpools, play-dates, and outside school activities." - Nancy, parent
